Summary
Recreation Director Tina Chik reported ARPA-funded auditorium repairs and upgrades — new LED lighting, rigging, sound and ticketing — said the project is on or under budget, and outlined a season of concerts, comedians and family movie nights.
Recreation Director Tina Chik updated the commission on Feb. 5 about a year of renovations and new programming at the city auditorium, funded in part with ARPA resources.
Chik said crews removed debris, replaced stage rigging and Cyclorama equipment, upgraded lighting to LED, repaired and tightened seating hardware, renovated the green room into a flexible dressing area, replaced the drop ceiling and installed new sound and projection systems. She also said the venue has new ticketing software and microphone and monitor equipment.
On programming, Chik presented a fall-to-spring schedule with comedians, bands and a family movie series for the summer. She listed several acts under negotiation for late 2025 and early 2026 and said one-off summer movie nights are planned for families. "I've got 3 right now that I'm trying to put on the schedule," she said.
Chik told commissioners the work will come in under budget and described plans to expand concession offerings and to operate ticketing for partner events. She also showed a proposed brand for the venue — the "Ox Theater" — and said the new logo would work on signage and promotional materials.
Commissioners praised the work and asked about concession plans and point-of-contact arrangements for booking acts; Chik identified herself as the point of contact for agents and said staff will expand concessions over time.
