Council recognizes International Fraud Awareness Week, Sounds of Autism and Epilepsy Awareness Month

At the start of the Nov. 17 meeting the council read proclamations recognizing International Fraud Awareness Week and the work of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners in raising awareness about fraud prevention.
Council Member Conde then read a proclamation recognizing Sounds of Autism’s Unified Responder Community initiative. Jamie Aldom, executive director of Unified Initiatives for Sounds of Autism, thanked the city, highlighted partnerships with police and fire and presented a certificate noting Avondale’s completion of the initiative’s first phase. Aldom thanked council members, the resource center and local partners and noted coordination between Sounds of Autism and first responders to assist families in crisis.
Council Member Solorio introduced the Cook family for a proclamation declaring November Epilepsy Awareness Month. The family described their child’s medical journey and thanked Phoenix Children’s Hospital and local fire and EMS personnel for responses and support. Council members encouraged awareness of seizure first aid and available local resources.
