Commission honors Mayor Robert Wills, recognizes county employees and proclaims America 250 celebration

The Baldwin County Commission used part of its Feb. 3 meeting for ceremonial items: the board accepted a presentation from the Baldwin delegation honoring Bay Minette Mayor Robert A. Wills for more than 50 years of public service and recognized county employees across several departments as employees of the quarter.

Representative Donna Givens and other delegation members read a commendation noting Mayor Wills' roles as attorney, school board member and mayor and citing local accomplishments including downtown revitalization, hospital expansion and recruitment of major industry. Staff and commissioners presented awards to multiple county employees — including Jamie Burkett (probate, Foley), Devin Gregus (probate, Fairhope), Connie Merchant (facilities coordinator), Amanda (highway operational support) and Belinda Ramey (highway operations) — with presenters highlighting customer-service recognitions, large project coordination, and long service.

County staff also read a proclamation designating 2026 as the America 250 celebration and historical heritage recognition period in Baldwin County. The proclamation thanks and endorses local historical organizations (the Baldwin County Historical Society, the Daughters and Sons of the American Revolution, and the Baldwin County Genealogical Society) and encourages collaborative educational events and commemorations throughout the year. Heritage organizers described planned activities at sites such as Historic Blakeley State Park and asked the commission for continued support.

Commissioners praised staff and volunteers, noted prior employee longevity awards (combined service pins reported at a prior event) and closed the ceremonial portion of the meeting with photos. No formal policy or budget action was taken as part of these recognitions.
