Oxford City board reviews draft committee charters, sets regular Tuesday 6 p.m. meetings

The Oxford City Board of Commissioners reviewed draft committee charters and said it will post finalized versions on the city website so the public can see committee charges and membership.

Board leadership told commissioners the city will move regular board meetings to Tuesdays at 6 p.m. and begin implementing that schedule immediately, with full effect expected by the February board meeting. The goal, the presiding official said, is "to be as transparent as possible" and to make committee assignments and responsibilities clearer to the public.

Karen McGee, chair of the budget and finance committee, said the draft she received matched prior discussions and that "everything here looks pretty good to me." Several commissioners asked that sign-off language be made uniform across all charters (for example, using a consistent term such as "adopted" rather than mixed language). The city clerk agreed to standardize the documents and publish committee schedules.

The board confirmed committee chairs and external representatives. Among assignments noted in the discussion: the Carly Regional Water System will continue to include the presiding official and the city manager; Pam Patron was proposed to replace the city manager as the chamber representative; and Seth Lopkins will remain listed as the airport authority representative. Staff said the airport is pursuing multiple grants and infrastructure upgrades and will brief the board when additional details are available.

Commission chairs were reminded that some committees will be required to meet monthly while others meet quarterly or as needed, and that chairs are responsible for setting meeting dates and coordinating with staff. The clerk will collect the schedule and post it alongside the charters on the city website.

The board moved on after the committee discussion; no final ordinance or formal vote on the charters was recorded during the meeting.
