Oxford recognizes JF Webb football champions, ACIM volunteers and honors community service

The Oxford Board of Commissioners opened its Jan. 13 meeting with a series of community recognitions.
The board presented a proclamation honoring the JF Webb varsity football team for winning the conference championship and noted several individual athletic achievements. Officials congratulated the team and coaching staff.
The board also recognized Area Congregations in Ministry (ACIM) for its hunger‑relief work, reciting service statistics and partner organizations and acknowledging volunteers and the family of a recently deceased pantry assistant, Latoya Bicklin. An ACIM executive director and volunteers were invited forward to receive the proclamation.
A proclamation recognizing Martin Luther King Jr. Day was read, connecting the observance to reflection on justice and community service in the city’s 250th‑year national context. The board presented the Ellen (Helen/other transcription variants) Kernan Amos Public Service Award to Terry Hopkins Sr., who described longtime volunteer efforts including weekly breakfasts and a food pantry.
The board used the recognitions to thank volunteers, encourage local support for small businesses (Sanctum Coffee & Wine was mentioned) and highlight community partnerships.
