Students recognized: All‑State musicians, students of the month and student council recap

The Silver Consolidated Schools board paused regular business to honor student accomplishments across the district. Bob Carson of the Kiwanis Club presented Student of the Month certificates for Cliff, La Plata and Silver campuses, noting academic achievement, leadership and character for the students nominated.

Band director Azul Kano told the board that Max Johnson (tuba) and Bailey Clement (clarinet) were selected to the New Mexico All-State Small School Band after a demanding audition process and rehearsals in Albuquerque from Jan. 14–17. "This is one of the highest recognitions a student musician in New Mexico can earn," Kano said, and the board congratulated both students.

Athletics and activity recognitions followed. Coach Elizabeth Harrison updated the board that the tennis program has grown dramatically in five years and highlighted district champions and state qualifiers, including Hadassah Matthew’s undefeated district record and top-five state standing. Student council president Brock Anderson Amaro presented a semester recap: drives and service projects (a hoodie drive, snack drive and Valentine cards for care homes), fall-sports records and plans for prom and leadership conferences. Student leaders and advisers emphasized community service and leadership development opportunities.

Board members praised the students and staff for showcasing the district’s programs, noting art displays in the room and asking that student work continue being featured in galleries and community venues. The recognitions capped with photos and brief remarks from students and advisers.
