Facilities presenter Mr. Deptula told board members several air handlers have become unserviceable because refrigerant standards changed and manufacturers no longer support replacement parts; one compressor burned out at Lyman Hall and the district plans to replace both adjacent units. "These air handlers have, become obsolete," he said.
Deptula also described elevator modernization work at DAG (two additional elevators after one was updated last year), a complete Sheehan elevator rebuild currently in design, and boiler replacements at multiple schools that are approaching the end of their useful life. He said the runway surfaces for long jump and pole-vault areas at Lyman Hall are delaminating and need repair to remain safe and usable.
He emphasized these projects are bondable through the town ("that's town money, not Board of Education money") and that the district saves energy dollars with modern equipment. Board members asked clarifying questions about elevator locations and needs; Deptula explained one elevator serves the cafeteria and another serves the academic wing at DAG.
Next steps: staff will continue design work (including Sheehan elevator design with an external firm) and work with town officials on bonding and scheduling; the projects will be presented to the appropriate town finance channels for funding consideration.
