Cary CCSD 26 announces food drive, logo contest, testing dates and ClassLink recognition

Superintendent Dr. Thomas used the Jan. 26 Cary CCSD 26 board meeting to outline districtwide community and student-engagement items.

Dr. Thomas announced the district's annual 100th-day food collection to benefit the Cary Grove Food Pantry. The drive will take place the week of Feb. 2—, with district collections in all buildings and planned delivery to the Cary Food Pantry on Feb. 6. "We are doing our annual hundredth day food collection," Dr. Thomas said when describing the timeline and partners.

Dr. Thomas also invited students, parents and community members to enter a logo contest for Cary Junior High; the contest is open to community members and students and the deadline is 3 PM on Feb. 27.

In a teaching-and-learning update, Miss Rivera reported that roughly 30 families joined a Parent University book-study session on Anxious Generation and encouraged further participation. She also outlined testing windows: I-Ready testing through Feb. 6 (with a week of makeups), ACCESS testing for English learners through March 3, and CogAT administration for second graders Feb. 2'0. Miss Rivera noted these tests inform identification for gifted and enrichment instruction.

Miss Rivera recognized district technology staff: she said ClassLink awarded the district in an 'outstanding implementation' category and explicitly recognized Andrew Fitzsimmons and his team for leading the implementation effort.

The announcements were informational; no board action was required on these items during the meeting.
