Deerfield approves alley easement and evidence‑locker purchase; Fortune Brands expansion noted

At its Feb. 3 meeting the Village of Deerfield Board of Trustees approved a resolution accepting an easement from resident Brian Hayes at 943 Forest to allow installation of a storm‑sewer inlet and tie‑in to an existing system in an improved alley that has caused ponding in heavy storms. Public works staff said the work has quotations in the range of approximately $12,000–$15,000 and that the easement was granted at no cost to the village.
The board also approved a resolution waiving formal competitive bidding and authorized the police department to purchase SpaceSaver evidence lockers from Bradford Systems of Elmhurst, Illinois for a not‑to‑exceed price of $26,707.54. The police representative said the existing lockers were installed in 2000, are showing wear, and include a refrigerated compartment that has required multiple repairs.
In other business, the mayor and staff announced that Fortune Brands plans to occupy roughly two of three buildings at the Amgen site in Deerfield, initially bringing about 400 jobs with potential growth toward 1,000 over the next several years; trustees and staff thanked Lake County partners and state contacts for their assistance.
Finally, the board voted to enter executive session pursuant to the statute cited in the meeting packet.
