The Village of Deerfield Board of Trustees on Feb. 3 voted to continue consideration of a special‑use ordinance for Ultimate Ninjas Academy at 775 Fauquigan Road to the board's next meeting to allow the applicant's attorney time to review revised ordinance language.
Staff presented the draft ordinance and highlighted three conditions requested by the board: (1) employee parking in the east lot of the shopping center during business hours, (2) an information guide for patrons that explains parking and pickup procedures and (3) a required parking and pickup review at least six months after opening, with the board reserving the right to adopt reasonable additional parking conditions by resolution if necessary. Applicant Jennifer Brody said recent, late edits had been provided to the applicant earlier the same day and that her counsel had not had time to review the latest language; she told the board she was "hesitant" to proceed without attorney review.
Mayor Shapiro offered, and trustees approved, a two‑week continuance to the next meeting so counsel can review the language and finalize any tweaks. The motion to continue passed without recorded dissent; the item will return to the board for final action after the applicant’s legal review.
Next steps: Staff and the applicant will work to resolve the outstanding language; if the applicant does not need changes, the board will consider the ordinance at the next regular meeting.
