Deerfield approves $15,000 wellness services agreement for police and first responders

The Village of Deerfield board voted March 3 to approve agreements with three wellness providers to offer officer wellness checks and related counseling services.
Police department staff explained the program would schedule 55‑minute wellness checks for officers and staff; the department will not receive individualized clinical information from the providers. Staff said therapists from the three organizations are either former first responders or family members of first responders, a factor the department highlighted as helpful for peer understanding.
The village said it is contracting with First Responders Wellness Center LLC, 911 Wellness Group, and Living Pano Counseling (names as stated in the meeting). The cost of the contracts will not exceed $15,000 and the item was budgeted. Staff said the village is using three providers to increase scheduling flexibility and that providers will make on‑site visits to the department for blocked appointment days.
Trustees asked whether the services include therapy beyond wellness checks and whether other village employees might access the providers; staff replied that services can expand as needed and village employees encountering critical incidents could use the same resources. The board approved the motion by roll call.
