Chief John Burke updated the Lake Forest City Council on Feb. 2 about progress at the new police facility at 1925 Field Court, saying construction has reached about the 25% completion milestone.
Burke said work intensified in late October and November, and contractors logged roughly 2,700 labor hours in December and more than 3,400 in January. Crews excavated areas for the firing range, evidence garage, sally port and the elevator pit, completed masonry work on the elevator shaft and began framing, followed by plumbing, electrical and HVAC rough-ins for both floors. "Overall, the project is progressing, well, and it's on track," Burke said. He told the council he expects drywall work to begin on Feb. 9.
Deputy Chief Kevin Zielk is producing periodic video updates, which Burke said are available on the city's website; the mayor and council asked that staff continue to provide bi-monthly progress briefings until construction is finished.
The presentation did not include a revised overall completion date or a new cost estimate. Burke said outdoor concrete work will resume when weather permits and that the schedule should not be affected by short winter delays.
