Wood County expects modest sales-tax surplus; board to introduce multiple budget amendments
Summary
Chair Lance Plimel said strong November and December receipts pushed Wood County above its sales-tax projection and estimated a surplus of roughly $150,000–$200,000; the board will present budget amendments to accept and allocate that money.

Lance Plimel, chair of the Wood County Board of Supervisors, said the county had budgeted conservatively for sales-tax revenue but that stronger late-year receipts left the county "up a 150 to $200,000" over projections on an ~$8,000,000 base figure referenced in the interview.
Plimel said sales-tax receipts are treated as discretionary general-fund dollars that can support parks, law enforcement, human services and other county needs. He told listeners the board will bring a series of budget amendments to the next county board meeting to accept and allocate the excess revenue, and noted he finds it "kinda ludicrous" the county must pass a resolution simply to accept surplus funds even when the money already exists.
Why it matters: modest surpluses can allow the county to cover unexpected costs, add discretionary services, or reduce use of contingency funds. Plimel said that although projections briefly showed potential underperformance earlier in the year, the county finished the year above its budgeted figure.
What the interview did not provide: exact final year-end totals, department-by-department appropriation plans, or the specific items the budget amendments will fund. Plimel said final numbers were not yet in but that the county expected to finish the year "real good."
