The Greenwood Public Works and Safety Board on Feb. 2 approved purchases of heavy equipment and patrol vehicles intended to support winter operations and refuse collection.
Public Works staff told the board they were requesting approval to buy a 2027 Kenworth T380 grama truck for $239,469 and a 2027 Kenworth T480 single-axle dump with a municipal snow plow for $280,091 for the street and waste management departments. Staff also requested authority to acquire two police interceptor vehicles priced at $44,495.25 and $44,310.25, using a source-contract purchase and payment arrangements through a Huntington lease.
“We'll order them as 2027s,” Public Works staff said, noting, “They'll come in '26, but they'll actually [be] 27.” The board confirmed the model-year discrepancy and financing approach during a brief discussion and voted to approve the purchases.
City officials said the vehicles will replace or supplement existing fleet assets used for snow removal and waste services. Funding was described as coming through existing purchase agreements and a Huntington lease; staff indicated the procurement follows a source-contract process and that the lease payments are part of the financing plan.
The motion to approve the orders was moved and seconded and passed by voice vote.
