Greendale board approves $89,424 solar installation for community learning center

The Village of Greendale Board of Trustees voted to approve installation of solar panels on the Greendale Community Learning Center, accepting a low bid of $89,424 from Current Electric. Trustees said the project is part of the village’s 2026 facilities capital improvements and would be the first village-owned facility to receive solar panels.
Trustee Berrigan summarized staff analysis of three competitive quotes and projected lifetime savings, saying, “Current Electric came in at the lowest at $89,424” and that the village expects “approximately about a $9,000 a year in savings, with roughly over $400,000 in savings over the 30 year life span.” Finance and staff also noted a 30% direct investment tax credit and a $50-per-kilowatt energy rebate that reduce the village’s effective cost; staff mentioned potential additional ITC “adders” that could provide a further 10% savings, though some adders require criteria the village does not meet.
President Seabrowski asked about price volatility; staff responded that the rebate window and pending roof-bid results were considered. Staff recommended approving the vendor selection but delaying signing the contract until CLC roof bids are returned so the solar contract can be coordinated with the roof project.
The board approved the recommendation on roll call. Next steps include finalizing roof-bid results and returning with a contract signing once the roof scope is confirmed.
