At its Feb. 2 meeting, the Spanish Fort City Council approved multiple resolutions and licensing requests in actions the council said would allow projects and operations to proceed quickly.
Mr. Connor presented a proposed cooperative maintenance agreement with the Alabama Department of Transportation for improvements at Ballard Park on the causeway, noting portions of improvements would fall on or adjacent to ALDOT right-of-way. The council suspended the rules and adopted resolution number 15 79 20 26 by unanimous roll call to permit construction to begin.
Council also adopted a resolution authorizing an agreement with Background Investigation Bureau LLC, doing business as B Checks, to expand background investigations for city hiring and to assist the Spanish Fort Sports Association with coach and volunteer screening. Mr. Connor said the service would broaden searches beyond the state's system and that, depending on the scope, searches would cost about $19 or $27 each. Council suspended the rules and adopted the resolution that night.
Separately, council approved three retail licensing requests for Lanca Trading LLC doing business as Spanish Fort Food Mart at 6490 U.S. Highway 90: a retail beer off-premises license, a retail table-wine off-premises license, and a tobacco/alternative nicotine products license. Each license was approved by roll call vote with no recorded opposition.
Roll-call tallies recorded members voting yes on each action; the council did not attach additional conditions in the meeting record.
