Board approves $800,000 grant to Carpinteria to restore Bluffs and improve trails

"This is an $800,000 grant paid out in four, $200,000 segments paid out annually," County staff told the Board, noting the funds will support trail restoration, invasive species removal, expansion of ADA paths, parking and interpretive features.
Carpinteria officials including Mayor Natalia Alarcon and parks program manager Tori Cutforth reviewed project goals and thanked the Board for the partnership. The Board voted unanimously to approve the funding agreement.
Why it matters: the Carpinteria Bluffs and Rincon Bluffs are a regionally used coastal open space that supports habitat protection and public recreation. The grant advances improvements intended to protect sensitive species and expand safe, accessible public access while providing annual reporting and oversight by the county.
Next steps: upon a written request from the city and execution of the agreement, the county will make installment payments and monitor the city’s annual progress reports and documentation of expenditures.
