Des Moines County supervisors approve claims, personnel actions and appoint Tom Williams to drainage board

At its Feb. 3 meeting, the Des Moines County Board of Supervisors approved accounts payable claims and several personnel items, and appointed a member to a local drainage district.

The board presented accounts payable claims of $394,591.24 (checks $97,314.13 and wire transfers making the total) and approved the claims by motion and voice vote. A payroll-reimbursement claim of $417.56 was also moved, seconded and approved.

Personnel actions approved included a one-year step increase for Cynthia Huffman, a sheriff's office receptionist, from $20.10 to $22.33 per hour effective Feb. 24; and the appointment of Crystal (Crystala) Warrior as a full-time correctional officer with an annual rate recorded in the minutes as $50,072.77 effective Feb. 3, 2026. The motions to approve these personnel items were moved and seconded and voice votes were recorded as affirmative by named supervisors in the roll call.

The board approved its Jan. 27, 2026 meeting minutes and received the Southeast Regional FY25 annual report and the Veterans Affairs monthly report for January 2026. The supervisors appointed Tom Williams to a three-year term on the Burlington Northbound Levee and Drainage District; the motion was moved, seconded and approved.

Budget and roads: the county engineer reviewed bids for annual dust-control services (Calcium chloride contract amount $135,121.91) and discussed the county's multi-year gravel-rocking program, including a recent bid under $302,175 and higher-level budget projections referenced in the meeting.

Next steps: routine county administration continues; specific follow-ups include scheduled budget work and upcoming land-use items on future agendas.
