Malik Ideas, who identified himself during public comment, asked the Parks & Recreation Commission to add a disc-golf concept for Christmas Hill Park to a future agenda and to coordinate a staff-led site walk to evaluate safety buffers and constraints. "The concept is an 18 to 21 basket system split into two separate loops," Ideas said, adding he had preliminary basket locations and would prepare a more finalized layout for staff and commissioners by the next meeting.
Ideas told the commission he was not asking staff to design the course from scratch and proposed a temporary pilot installed or marked for weeks rather than months so usage and compatibility could be observed and immediate safety or routing adjustments made. He said he would provide a written proposal and a book of best practices as reference.
City staff responded that the idea could be discussed with the project proponent and the matter could be scheduled for a future agenda item, with staff and commissioners studying constraints, safety, and compatibility with existing park uses. Staff noted Christmas Hill Park has multiple existing uses and suggested staff would discuss temporary pilot options and alternative park locations (including Los Animas) where conflicts might be fewer.
The commission asked staff to meet with the speaker and return with a status update and recommended next steps when ready. The commission did not make a formal decision or vote on a pilot during the meeting.
