Council approves two ordinances and several appointments; votes unanimous

The Lafayette City Council approved two ordinances on first reading and confirmed several board appointments at its February meeting.

Ordinance 20 26-01: The council approved an ordinance to establish a Southeast Industrial TIF fund and change how the city and Tippecanoe County distribute shared TIF revenues. City staff described the change as administrative only: instead of sending individual invoices back and forth, each jurisdiction will distribute its share as receipts arrive and create a local landing fund for the county's Southeast Industrial TIF revenue. The council passed the ordinance on first reading by roll-call vote, recorded as 7-0.

Ordinance 20 26-02: The council approved amendments to Ordinance 20 25-37 (salaries for appointed officers and employees, excluding sworn police and fire), removing a director-level position and adding an outdoor recreation and athletics coordinator (estimated savings of about $35,000 a year), retitling an aquatics and equipment supervisor to maintenance technician (classification unchanged) and retitling a police uniform division technician to administrative assistant (classification unchanged). Staff stated these changes reduce budgeted costs overall. The ordinance passed on first reading by a 7-0 vote.

Appointments: Under miscellaneous and new business the council moved and approved appointments: Dave Moulton and Frank Donaldson (redevelopment board, one-year terms), Jim Dothard (fire merit commission, four-year term) and Terry Gilbert (library board, four-year term). Council approved the appointments by unanimous voice vote.
