Board accepts minutes, delays officer election and hears park maintenance reports

At its Jan. 22 meeting the Parks, Recreation and Environmental Protection Board accepted minutes from Nov. 20, agreed informally to postpone officer elections to Feb. 19, and discussed islanded responsibilities for stormwater pond maintenance and a 4–1 commissioners vote on the Bobby Jones Clubhouse concept noted by the chair.
The Parks, Recreation and Environmental Protection Board opened its Jan. 22 meeting with roll call and a pledge of conduct. The board approved minutes from its Nov. 20 meeting after a motion and second; the chair declared the motion accepted after a call for favor was answered "Aye" (motion text moved on record, SEG 024–034). The meeting record does not show individual named votes for the approval beyond the single recorded "Aye."
The chair proposed, and the board informally agreed, to postpone election of officers until the Feb. 19 meeting so an interested member can participate; the chair said he has served two terms and suggested a fairness deferral.
Chair Leo Fitzgerald reported the commissioners voted 4–1 in favor of the board’s recommendation on the Bobby Jones Clubhouse being a one‑story design and that further discussion at the commissioners level is expected.
Board member Chris Nace reported an incident at Arlington Park where a county subcontractor sprayed shoreline vegetation at a stormwater pond; a resident photographed the activity and the interaction escalated to a police call. Staff reported the subcontractor is no longer permitted to work on the site and staff will reach out to the county to clarify roles for stormwater maintenance.
Before adjourning, the board asked staff to prepare an update on hurricane repairs to parks for the Feb. meeting. The chair set the next regular meeting for Thursday, Feb. 19, 2026, at City Hall Commission Chambers and adjourned the session.
