Copperas Cove OKs $85,000 interlocal with Hill Country Transit District to continue microtransit and connector service

Copperas Cove’s City Council authorized the city manager on Feb. 3 to execute an interlocal agreement with the Hill Country Transit District to continue public transit services in the city.
City staff said the agreement is the city’s annual interlocal with the transit district and defines the services the district will provide, including microtransit (the Hop on-demand service) and a connector route linking Copperas Cove with Killeen and Harker Heights. Staff stated the agreement cost of $85,000 has already been included in the city’s budget and is a reduced amount from an earlier proposal.
Presenting the item, the city manager noted that the transit district has already increased its geographic service area within Copperas Cove and that the city continues dialogue with the district to expand coverage where needed. A councilmember urged riders to download the Hop app, praising the service’s door-to-door functionality.
A councilmember moved to authorize the city manager to execute the interlocal agreement and the motion passed by voice vote.
The action keeps transit services in place under the terms described and directs the city manager to finalize the agreement.
