Westland Council approves consent calendar, reappoints members to development and planning boards

During the consent vote the clerk read items that included a professional services agreement with Wade Trim for a 2026–2035 consolidated plan for the Community Development Block Grant program, a one-year golf course maintenance contract with Links at Gateway LLC for $178,500, administrative fee updates (including a $60 nonresident dog-park pass), adoption of budget amendments through Dec. 31, 2025 for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2026, and a resolution to allow early voting at Westland City Hall during stated hours. Councilmember Rakowski moved to approve the consent calendar; Councilmember Sampe supported the motion and it passed with no changes or dissent.
On separate motions the council confirmed multiple reappointments: Ralph Cabito to the Downtown Development Authority (four-year term to 02/19/2030); Robert Versace to the Local Development Finance Authority (four-year term to 02/08/2030); James Allen to the Economic Development Corporation/Tax Increment Authority/Brownfield Redevelopment Authority (six-year term to 02/21/2032); and three planning commission members — Deanna Stachow, Deborah Folks and Ruby Richards — each to three-year terms. Mayor Coleman and several councilmembers thanked the appointees for their service, describing the planning commission as particularly time-consuming and important to how the city grows.
Council also approved payment of the voucher and the minutes from the Jan. 20, 2026 meeting. A roll-call vote recorded unanimous approval of the minutes. No dissent was recorded on reappointments and the council indicated unanimous passage for those motions.
The meeting included routine acknowledgments and plugs for upcoming community events from the mayor and council. The council closed the item without amendments and proceeded to other business.
