Finance committee forwards grants, amendment, purchase order and four building close‑out resolutions to full board
Summary
Committee approved forwarding to the full board three abstracts (including an arts grant), one amendment for the children’s community program, a $55,572.27 SignPro purchase order and four building project close-outs; staff will post backup documentation ahead of the citywide meeting.
The Finance & Operations Committee voted to send a package of items to the full Board of Education, including three information abstracts, one contractual amendment, one purchase order and four final building close-out resolutions.
Chair moved the package forward and the motion carried after a voice vote recorded as 'yes' from Doctor Yarbrough, Miss Downer and the Chair. Staff said additional backup documentation for the building close-outs will be posted in time for the citywide special meeting this Thursday.
On the abstracts: Mister Brown described a small Connecticut Office of the Arts grant for the district’s new arts public service academy to fund materials to build picnic tables for a courtyard and a field trip to view public art at the Ed Museum in Winsted, Connecticut. Miss Bonanno summarized the Title I consolidated grant: the district’s portion is about $13,294,000 this year (total grant roughly $13,462,000), with about $10,000,000 earmarked for staff and benefits and the remainder for programming, summer and after‑school supports, McKinney‑Vento services and parent activities. A staff member covering for Dr. Evelyn Robles outlined the Title III English language acquisition grant’s goals and said the district serves over 4,000 multilingual learners.
On the amendment: Miss Jackson said the children’s community program amendment corrects a calendar calculation (daily rates were initially divided by 182 days and should read 180 days) and does not change the dollar amount.
On the purchase order: SignPro representatives described a $55,572.27 contract to design, manufacture and install an externally mounted sign at Career High School; the sign will be freestanding in front of the building, requires permits and will be funded through an MSAP grant.
The committee recorded that minor clerical errors in the memorandum for agenda item 2.2 will be corrected administratively: the memo inadvertently named ‘Lincoln Bassett’ instead of ‘Obama’ and listed 30 sessions rather than 48. Staff said the errors do not affect the underlying contract amount.
