The Sarasota Community Redevelopment Agency on the motion of Commissioner Battee unanimously accepted a Newtown CRA Advisory Board report and authorized staff to begin the public art process for a mural on the R. L. Taylor building in Newtown.
Rochelle Gallant, business relations coordinator, said the proposal is "a community mural that's intended to celebrate the history, the culture, and the resilience of Newtown" and described plans for community engagement and a draft call for artists. Economic Development Manager Wayne Appleby told commissioners the Newtown advisory board voted unanimously on Nov. 19 to request that the commission allow the process to proceed.
