City approves firefighter turnout replacements, new servers and asphalt recycler

The Idaho Falls City Council approved three municipal purchasing items on Jan. 22 presented by the Municipal Services Department.
Municipal Services requested authorization to purchase 33 pairs of firefighter turnout gear under a cooperative purchasing contract (Swarthwell / Western Firefighting Equipment) for $140,780.18. The department said turnout sets are purchased on a rotating schedule and noted health and safety benefits for firefighters, including reduced exposure to carcinogens.
Council then approved access to the State of Idaho contract with CompuNet to replace four city servers for $131,441.19; staff said servers typically last seven to 10 years and the replacements are part of a regular rotation to maintain infrastructure reliability. Municipal Services also explained that some servers would be moved to Idaho Falls Power to extend their lifecycle.
Finally the council approved purchasing a Bagela-brand asphalt recycler (10 tons per hour capacity) through a GSA cooperative contract for $225,524.29. Staff said the machine will support winter and off-season pavement repairs and is included in the municipal equipment replacement program.
Each motion was moved, seconded and approved by roll call. The city noted that these purchases are part of budgeted replacement programs and will be authorized for signature by the mayor and city clerk.
