Eric Minton, city attorney, introduced Council Bill 2026‑01 and described the contract terms. Councilor Garrett West moved approval; the motion was seconded and passed on a roll-call vote with seven votes in the affirmative.
Supporters framed the work as preventive maintenance that stretches pavement life and is more cost-effective than full repaving. “These slurry seals are a great way to extend the life of our asphalt around the city, make sure our roads stay safe,” Councilor Zach Smith said during discussion.
Councilors acknowledged rising costs for road work but credited Public Works for managing bids and controlling expenditures where possible. Public Works Director Dan Worth is responsible for overseeing the project’s execution and will coordinate scheduling and traffic control with affected neighborhoods.
The ordinance authorizes the contract and directs the city to execute it; project timing will follow standard permitting and scheduling processes managed by Public Works.
