Select Board authorizes purchase of Rosenbauer fire truck pending final contract review
Summary
The board authorized the purchase of a 1,000-gallon Rosenbauer fire truck under a Sourcewell contract at a price slightly below the previously appropriated $1,118,700, contingent on final legal and warranty review; the truck requires full upfront payment for the deepest discount and carries an estimated build time of approximately 660 days.

Select Board members authorized a purchase agreement on Dec. 9 for a 1,000-gallon Rosenbauer fire truck sourced through the Sourcewell cooperative purchasing contract. Town staff said the price is slightly under the amount previously approved by voters, enabling potential savings if the town pays the purchase price up front.
Deputy Van Dyke and the chief outlined pros and cons of available options, saying Rosenbauer is a vendor the town has used successfully and that the alternative (Pierce Manufacturing) quoted lead times of about 50 months. Staff said the Rosenbauer unit would replace the older 2009 Pierce truck and that the smaller 1,000-gallon tank provides more compartment space and better maneuverability for local driveways.
Town staff explained the vendor requires payment schedules that typically include upfront payments; paying in full now would save the town roughly $73,000 compared with other payment approaches, but it would require the town to commit funds while the build time is approximately two years. The board moved to authorize the purchase pending final review by town counsel and acceptance of contract terms addressing warranty, delivery liability and other provisions.
"This is the truck with a smaller tank. It allows for more tool space ... and is more driveway friendly," one presenter said. The motion passed by voice vote with direction that no final signature occur until legal and contract questions are answered and staff provide the required documentation for review.
