Weston advances North House HVAC replacement; estimated $2.4 million, RFP expected early February

Weston School District officials said the North House HVAC replacement is progressing and that the district expects to issue an RFP in early February after finalizing system design.
At the Facilities Finance Operations Committee meeting, S5 (Phil) said the revised project cost is about $2,400,000 and that the board of finance approved initial funding unanimously. S2 (Mike), who presented technical details, said the district has been working with Landmark on system design and that RFP language could be ready between Jan.28 and Jan.30. Phil said final financing — whether bonding or other measures — will be determined by the board of finance and that a revote could be required in February for procedural reasons.
The district is aiming to begin work in June to avoid delay into June 2027, but S2 said the installation requires roughly 12 weeks while the summer break is about 8–9 weeks. To reduce disruption, the selected VRF system can be installed in phases, allowing part of the two‑story North House to remain in use while work continues on other sections.
S6 raised concerns about parent notification and classroom logistics. S2 said he will meet with Laura and coordinate communications with principals so families are alerted in advance about potential classroom moves and temporary disruptions.
The committee was told the RFP return will inform final cost estimates and that the project could appear on the board of finance agenda in March depending on the RFP schedule. No formal vote on the project was recorded at this meeting.
The district plans to review RFP responses with legal counsel and Colliers before issuing contracts; officials said equipment appears to be available and they will refine the construction timeline once bids are received.
