Orange Unified board swears in trustees, elects Erickson president and Yamasaki vice president

The Orange Unified School District Board of Education ceremonially swore in five trustees during its Dec. 16 meeting and completed its annual organizational items, electing its leadership for 2025.
Trustees were administered the oath in a public ceremony attended by family and community members. Following the ceremonial swearing, the board nominated and elected Chris Erickson as board president. Trustee Andrea Yamasaki was nominated and elected vice president for 2025. The board also appointed Superintendent Michael Christiansen to serve as secretary to the board as provided by board bylaw 9122.
The organizational meeting took place under Education Code requirements for annual board organization. Trustees also selected representatives to external committees: Orange City Schools Coordinating Committee (Trustees Kelly, Erickson, Thomas); Legislative Coalition (Trustees Yamasaki, Vane, Page); and the Orange County Committee on School District Organization representative (Trustee Glass, with Trustee Kelly as alternate). Motions to adopt the agenda and to approve the officer and committee appointments passed unanimously.
President Erickson thanked the community for its support, and trustees noted the importance of governance training and community engagement as the board moves into 2025. The board also set its 2025 regular meeting calendar and named Anna Page as clerk for the coming year.
Procedurally, motions to elect officers and approve appointments were moved, seconded, and recorded as passed by the full seven-member board.
