Hollywood Park’s City Council voted Jan. 28 to call a special election on May 2, 2026, asking voters to reauthorize a one‑quarter of one percent local sales and use tax dedicated to street maintenance and repair.
City staff explained the tax is scheduled to expire Sept. 30, 2026, and state law requires reauthorization before that date. The ballot will contain the statutorily required language describing the reauthorization at the rate of one‑fourth of 1% for maintenance and repair of municipal streets; if reauthorized it would expire after four years per state law.
Council members discussed the revenue purpose and how the fund is restricted for streets; a motion to call the special election was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
The city clerk/staff noted timelines: candidate application period and early voting dates were also provided earlier in the meeting materials. Staff said applications for office are available on the city website and at the municipal office with free notarization.
Next steps: City staff will finalize the ballot language consistent with state law and proceed with election preparations for the May 2 special election.
