Commissioners call for volunteers at Mary Nutter Classic; yoga program breaks attendance records

"We promote — there's 33,000 people at this event," Vice Chair Bayshoo said, describing that figure as an estimate to illustrate outreach reach; booth shifts were outlined as Thursday noon–4 (with the option to stay until about 4:30), and Friday and Saturday 10 a.m.–3 p.m. Commissioners requested volunteers and noted parking accommodations at the library could be arranged for helpers.
Commissioners also highlighted recent successes in the amphitheater: Vice Chair Bayshoo reported an initial free-yoga session with 164 participants and later described a record attendance day with "211 yogis today," calling the program one of the commission's most successful offerings. Commissioners said they will continue to expand free programming and pursue partnerships with local nonprofits and arts organizations.
Other community items discussed included outreach for a popcorn sponsor (approximately $1,600) for an amphitheater event, shoe-collection fundraising for Friends of the Desert Mountains, and interest in coordinating spay/neuter clinics across cities. No formal action was required for the Mary Nutter volunteer item; it was informational and staff and commissioners will continue volunteer recruitment and logistical coordination.
