New CFO lays out December financials and tentative budget timeline

Crystal Sublette, the district’s newly hired chief financial officer, presented December year-to-date financials to the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District Board on Feb. 3 and outlined the budget schedule ahead of the April tentative budget presentation.
Sublette said general fund revenues through December were about $25,200,000, or roughly 45.8% of the budget. Property-tax receipts were reported at approximately $17.5 million (about 58.5% of the property-tax budget), and consolidated-tax receipts were about $4.1 million (35.4% of budget); Sublette noted consolidated-tax receipts generally lag by two months. General fund expenditures were running at about 43.5% of budget, with salaries and benefits totaling roughly $20.3 million (44.5% of budget) and services and supplies about $2.5 million (32.7% of budget).
Sublette said the district received its third property tax installment in January, which was not reflected in the December statements, and the district expects final revenue projections in March. The board was told a preliminary tentative budget will be presented to the board on April 7.
Commissioners asked clarifying questions about the budget schedule and an outstanding payment‑in‑lieu‑of‑taxes (PILT) request to Washoe County; Chief Edwards said staff are actively discussing PILT with county management and will report back when there is an update.
