The Board of Education of Moline-Coal Valley CUSD 40 used its Oct. 27 meeting to approve a set of financial and operational items that will affect district budgeting and vendor relationships.
Key votes included approval of a resolution providing for a working cash fund bond issue in the amount of $49,482,600 (Series 2025). The board also approved the 2026–27 and 2027–28 school calendars by roll call vote.
On employee and retiree benefits, the board approved administrative services only for group health with UMR with a projected cost of $338,096 for 2026; a group dental plan with UnitedHealthcare projected at $613,700; renewal of Medicare Part D prescription coverage for retirees 65 and older; selection of TruRx as pharmacy benefit manager and "Sharks" for specialty medications (projected $232,735); and individual stop-loss insurance with Sun Life projected at $1,191,354 for 2026. District staff said the pharmacy changes aim to reduce specialty medication costs and keep out-of-pocket expenses lower for plan members.
The board also approved entering an impact memorandum of understanding for the Lincoln Irving expansion project with Illawa Construction Labor and a national council in Moline, Illinois. These motions were moved, seconded and approved by roll call unless otherwise noted; one consent-item abstention was recorded during the consent-agenda votes.
Most items were passed without extended debate; staff provided brief explanations where needed and thanked committee members involved in vendor selection. The board concluded regular business and recessed for a closed-session review of minutes before returning and adjourning.
