Gilpin County commissioners select Susan Brooman as 2026 chair, adopt official appointments

Susan Brooman was chosen as chair of the Gilpin County Board of County Commissioners for 2026 and Jeff Aiken was named chair pro tem after a motion the board approved on Jan. 13.
The board also reviewed and adopted the county’s annual list of official appointments, covering statutory designations and county representatives to regional boards and committees. Staff reported one personnel change among statutory appointments: the county’s road supervisor will change from Michael De Bridal to John Combs. Commissioners discussed depository banks and added the Centennial State Liquidity/Investment Pool (CSLIP) to their list of depositories.
The board retained The Mountaineer as the county newspaper of record after staff said both competing papers were eligible and that The Mountaineer had no known issues. The board voted to adopt Resolution 26-003, “adopting the list of official appointments for 2026,” by a recorded voice vote that carried 3–0.
The meeting also included a separate board appointment to the Central City Urban Renewal Authority: Lindsay Valdez, president of the Clear Creek Economic Development Corporation, was nominated and confirmed to represent the county on that authority.
The board’s actions are ministerial for 2026 committee and statutory coverage; the adopted list and the Mountaineer designation set who represents Gilpin County on regional bodies and where the county publishes required legal notices.
The board moved on to other agenda items after adopting the appointments list.
