PYLUSD announces acting superintendent, interim assistants and student board member
Summary

The Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District Board of Education announced multiple personnel actions Jan. 14 after closed session.
The board reported it appointed Renee Gray as acting superintendent (a motion in closed session was made by Mr. Frazier and seconded by Mrs. Blades). The board reported the vote was 3–2: Trustees Quintero, Blades and Frazier voted yes; Trustees Anderson and Beck voted no. The board later approved an employment agreement for acting superintendent Renee Gray, setting a daily rate of $1,518.22 for the interim assignment.
In closed session the board also appointed Yolanda Mendoza as acting assistant superintendent of human resources, effective Jan. 15, 2025; that motion (made by Mrs. Buck and seconded by Mrs. Quintero, according to the report out) carried 5–0. Joan Velasco was appointed interim assistant superintendent of administrative services effective Jan. 15, 2025; that action was reported as unanimous as well. The board read the contract terms aloud for each appointment, including daily rates and term language specifying that interim appointments may be terminated by either party at any time.
The board also swore in Leila Armand as the student board member for the second semester of the 2024–25 school year. Armand, a Valencia High School senior, was introduced and administered the oath of office on the dais.
Other procedural votes included unanimous approval of the meeting agenda as amended, approval of minutes from prior meetings and several consent-calendar items. Trustees and the acting superintendent noted the district is continuing normal operations and highlighted ongoing school events and professional development. Several trustees requested follow-up study sessions and promised to work with the school community on next steps after the charter decision.
