Students describe how scholarships and programs at Lehman College supported career goals

Jennifer, a SmartMD participant, said the program provides targeted resources for underrepresented students preparing for medical school, citing the MCAT Academy’s practice exams, study space and stipends that allowed her to prioritize test preparation. "It gave me the opportunity to take time off work," she said, describing how the program removed a financial barrier to MCAT preparation.
Ian Hynes, an Adult Degree Program student who moved from Jamaica, described completing a bachelor’s degree in nutrition and dietetics and using on‑campus scholarship and clinical placement support to pursue advanced study without incurring additional cost. Judith, another adult-degree student, described an interdisciplinary program that let her combine sociology and Africana studies and said departmental advising and supports were instrumental as she prepares for law school.
Speakers and administrators at the event emphasized that scholarships, tutoring services and targeted programs are central campaign priorities intended to expand access and student success.
