After storm, Flower Hill thanks highway crew and urges residents to avoid pushing snow back into streets

The Flower Hill Board of Trustees on Monday commended the highway department’s response to the recent storm and warned residents and contractors against pushing snow back into streets, which caused crews to make multiple plow passes.
“We were able to repair what needed to be repaired, we needed to put together what need to be put together, and that was taken care of,” the mayor said while thanking the highway department for its work. Trustees noted some equipment issues were identified during the storm and that staff will research purchasing additional equipment to improve cleanup operations.
Trustees and staff discussed enforcement challenges, including how to track repeat offenders and whether landscapers should be registered. Public works staff said enforcement largely depends on neighbor reports and field observations; the board urged residents to keep cleared snow on their property to avoid re-blocking streets and creating overtime for plow crews.
The mayor also reminded residents about overnight parking permits: vehicles left between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. without a permit can be ticketed by Nassau County. The board thanked staff and closed public discussion before entering executive session.
