Sen. Seymour told the Veterans and Military Affairs committee that Senate Bill 24 22 would give the adjutant general the authority to enter cooperative agreements with counties, municipalities or political subdivisions to convey real property for exclusive use by nonprofit entities when it serves the Mississippi Military Department or benefits veterans.
The bill, Seymour said, would allow installations or veterans’ homes that cannot store certain items on-site to convey or make available property where veteran outreach organizations could keep specialty beds and other equipment. "It basically gives the adjutant general the power to enter into cooperative agreements," Seymour said during his presentation.
Sen. Leonard asked whether the conveyed property could be used as a warning center; Seymour replied that permissible uses would be at the adjutant general’s discretion. After that exchange the committee voted on a motion titled "sufficient to pass," and the chair announced the ayes had it. The committee reported the bill out for further consideration.
The committee provided no fiscal note during the presentation and offered no amendment in committee. The next procedural step is floor consideration and any additional amendments that may be offered there.
