San Fernando staff reports: street projects underway, cooling centers open and DUI checkpoint data released

Staff also announced cooling centers open at Recreation Park and Las Palmas Park, available from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., offering water and space for residents to cool off during heat events.
The police chief reported preliminary DUI checkpoint data: 854 vehicles passed through the checkpoint, 508 were screened, 38 reports were taken (35 for unlicensed drivers), and three arrests were made — one for driving under the influence of cannabis and two for driving under the influence of alcohol. The chief said the data showed a notable number of unlicensed drivers and stressed outreach to encourage eligible drivers to obtain licenses.
Council thanked staff for operational updates and for the planning work that allows projects to proceed.
