Buncombe County staff told the Early Childhood Education Committee on Feb. 3 that fiscal‑year 2027 grant applications will be due Feb. 20 at noon and that individual scoring by committee members must be completed by March 31 at noon ahead of an April group review.
Rachel Sawyer, county administrator for strategic partnerships, said the county will launch a parent survey in the coming days to gather parents’ views on childcare use, barriers, and parenting supports and asked committee members to cascade the survey through their networks.
Staff also requested volunteers to film short social‑media videos to help promote the survey; volunteers named during the meeting included Beth Sherman and Stacy Anderson, with others offering to participate depending on timing.
The meeting recorded no public comments and closed with staff confirming the next committee meeting for March 3 at 1 p.m.
No formal funding decisions were taken at the Feb. 3 session; staff said they are finalizing a contract with an expert to support county planning and will return with more detailed implementation recommendations.
