Flagstaff approves joint purchase of Timberline firearms training facility

The Flagstaff City Council on Feb. 3 approved an intergovernmental agreement to finalize joint ownership and operation of the Timberline Firearms training facility north of town.
Bryce Doty, the city’s real estate manager, told council the city and Coconino County Community College District each will contribute $1,100,000 toward the purchase, the sheriff’s department will contribute $350,000 for use rights, and about $200,000 will be placed into a maintenance account to support operations. Doty said the college and city have signed the IGA and that approval by council is the final step before closing; staff expect to close on the property in late February or early March.
Doty said the arrangement gives joint ownership to the city and community college, grants the sheriff a license to use the facility, and directs remaining funds into a maintenance account. He said multiple partners — including the Flagstaff Police, the city attorney’s office, the college and facilities staff — worked on the transaction.
Council moved, seconded and approved Resolution 2026-08, which approves the IGA and authorizes closing under the terms presented. Doty said staff will proceed to closing and follow the IGA terms for operations and maintenance.
