Commission backs municipal code amendments to align local code with state renumbering (Ordinance 2026-01)

The Centerville Planning Commission voted Jan. 28 to recommend City Council approve Ordinance 2026-01, a set of ministerial amendments to municipal and zoning code references made necessary by recent state-level renumbering of land-use statutes.
Planning staff explained the state action reorganized and renumbered municipal land-use code provisions (discussed in the meeting as "B1008"). Staff recommended ministerial corrections to local references — for example, replacing citations to “Title 10, Chapter 9A” with the new chapter numbers “Title 10, Chapter 20” or “Chapter 21” as appropriate.
“...it completely reorganizes and renumbers the municipal land use code,” staff said, urging the commission to authorize corrections so the local code conforms to the state statute. Commissioners discussed and agreed there were organizational improvements in the state renumbering but raised concerns about internal navigation while staff finishes revisions.
During the motion to recommend approval, the commission adopted a friendly amendment delegating scrivener’s authority to staff to make modest formatting and stylistic edits before the ordinance goes to council. The amended motion passed unanimously.
The commission’s recommendation and supporting redlined materials will be forwarded to City Council for formal adoption. Staff also noted the commission will forward public comments and a record of verbal comments for council consideration.
