Representatives from NASBA and the Tennessee Society of CPAs updated the board on national and state activities.
NASBA board member Andy Bonner reported on recent NASBA meetings, including staffing changes (a new internal chief information officer) and efforts to modernize IT and use automation tools. Bonner said NASBA is tracking an uptick in CPA exam activity toward pre-COVID levels and is piloting technology improvements for member services.
Kara Fitzgerald, CEO of the Tennessee Society of CPAs, described TSCPA’s recent advocacy work (Day on the Hill meetings with state lawmakers), a new TSCPA website, and a new CPA exam scholarship program that will offer grants of $500–$1,000 to eligible candidates to help cover exam-related costs. Fitzgerald said TSCPA also continues outreach to students and partners to build the profession’s talent pipeline.
Board members noted the TSCPA and NASBA work as helpful context for the board’s regulatory discussions on licensure pathways and APS oversight.
