Val Verde Unified updates Moreno Valley council on resource center, centralized kitchen and student supports

"The community store has given out, close to 46,000 items," Lanier told the council, and the district partnered with Neighborhood Health to operate a clinic that performed more than 5,300 medical visits in its first year.
He also described a centralized kitchen and maintenance/operations consolidation designed to provide fresher meals and achieve cost efficiencies. Lanier told the council the district served approximately 3.6 million student meals in the 2024–25 school year and increased breakfast service by about 30% through a 'second chance breakfast' program.
Council members and public commenters praised the district’s student-centered approach. Parents, teachers and community groups called the resource center and nutrition programs instrumental in removing barriers to attendance and learning. Council members noted partnerships with the city on summer-meal expansion and invited the deputy superintendent to arrange tours for city officials.
No formal action was required on the presentation; council received and filed the update and asked staff to explore continued collaboration on food and student-support services.
