Lawrenceburg boards forward $325,000 Speedway LED lighting plan for council appropriation; capacitor bids rejected

Board of Works members advanced a plan to replace Lawrenceburg Speedway’s track lighting with new LED fixtures and asked council to consider an additional appropriation to pay the $325,000 Musco quote.
Austin, who presented the package, said the LED replacement would "reduce our energy consumption" and comes with a 10‑year parts-and-labor warranty. Because the city currently does not have budgeted funds for the project, Austin told the board it will be included as an "additional appropriation" on the next council agenda. The Board voted to forward the recommendation to council contingent on the appropriation.
Separately, board members considered bids for capacitor banks intended for the Speedway. Staff recommended tabling or rejecting those bids so the city can confirm whether capacitors remain necessary once new LED lighting is installed. Council approved a motion to reject all capacitor‑related bids and directed staff to reassess needs after LED work is planned.
Board members also requested a follow-up on maintenance commitments from the Speedway promoter related to dirt placed on the track in January 2024; staff agreed to check status and provide documentation to the board.
