Citrus County remains in Certified Local Government program, opening small-grant opportunities

Speaker 3 told the board the state office’s letter acknowledged receipt and review of Citrus County’s CLG annual report and stated, “Your annual report has been received and reviewed as of 12/15/2025. Our office has determined that your community is in good standings in the CLG program and eligible for CLG match waivers for small matching grants in the current grant cycle.” The finding means applicants can pursue CLG-funded historic markers and small projects with reduced local matching requirements when grants are available.
Board members also discussed county historic-site mapping. Speaker 3 said a prior presentation in May 2018 reported that 125 historic locations had been added to the county GIS map; the state master file contains roughly 1,300 sites. The board agreed staff should pursue updating the county GIS to produce a more current, concise public resource while balancing protections for sensitive or archaeological locations.
Members asked about administrative tools for applicants. Speaker 6 reported Citrus County had not previously finalized a certificate-of-appropriateness form in its electronic files; he provided a Mount Dora mock-up for consideration. Several members requested the county post the certificate-of-appropriateness and the sufficiency checklist on the county website to help prospective applicants prepare complete submissions.
No specific grant applications were voted on during the meeting; staff indicated the CLG status improves the county’s ability to support applicants for small matching grants in the next cycle.
