Prince George's County committee votes 5-0 to close Nov. 3 superintendent evaluation meeting

Prince George's County Board of Education Superintendent Evaluation Committee Chair Zakiya Goins McCance said the committee voted to close its Nov. 3, 2025, meeting and enter a closed session to discuss the superintendent evaluation.
McCance said the meeting would be closed “under the following provisions from General Provisions Article 3-305(b)(1) and (2)” and explained that “publicly disclosing information before it is finalized may result in lawsuits and fines.” The clerk then called a roll-call vote; five members voted in the affirmative and the motion was adopted.
The committee convened at 5:36 p.m. and the clerk reported five members present, establishing a quorum before the vote. After the roll call, Miss Gomez, Dr. Moss, Mrs. Brown, Mr. Jackson and Mr. Bridal each answered “Aye,” and McCance confirmed, “There are 5 in the affirmative.”
McCance instructed members to exit the public meeting and immediately enter the closed session using the calendar link on their calendars, noting that the link is a single link for everyone and that members would be placed in a waiting room while staff admitted them.
The committee cited General Provisions Article §3-305(b)(1) and (2) as the legal basis for closing the meeting to discuss the superintendent evaluation. The public recording of the meeting remains available on the Prince George's County Public Schools (PGCPS) YouTube channel for later viewing. No formal discussion of the superintendent evaluation occurred in the public record; the committee moved to a closed session to continue deliberations.
