"I'm here to express my concerns regarding the school committee's redistricting plan," Sarah Galvan said, calling the data analysis "not transparent" and asking the council to hold off on approving school budget items until community questions are addressed.
Kevin Hirsch warned of the wider consequences, saying frequent boundary changes could "introduce a lot of uncertainty" to the property market and called for more oversight of any process that could redraw boundaries annually.
Council President and Town Manager Ralph responded that state law gives the school committee primary responsibility for attendance boundary lines and that the town council has limited jurisdiction; Ralph said the town has provided a five-year look-ahead of proposed developments to the school department to inform their planning.
Several speakers said the redistricting discussions felt rushed and lacked shared data, and requested additional public sessions and clearer criteria. The council said it would convey the public's concerns to the school committee at its upcoming meeting and encouraged constituents to continue contacting the school committee directly.
