City says new permitting system is live; builders report hiccups but overall support

City staff told the Planning Commission on Feb. 10 that the new permitting and project-management software has gone live and that the department has been working through implementation issues. Staff said they held help-session trainings (one evening and one morning) for builders and other users and that the system is accepting applications and online payments, though the e-check payment option is temporarily disabled because the utilities module is not yet live.
Staff described a workaround to accept some payments in person or as a split payment until the utilities functions are activated in March. The planning staff also reported working with the implementation specialist and IT to address initial technical issues; staff said they will continue iterative fixes and provide additional training.
Builder adviser Dean Hedrick, who attended a training session, urged patience from the builder community. "The program works. It's got a few hiccups…it's going to take some time to get used to," he said, while also praising the system’s potential to improve coordination between builders and the planning department. Staff said they will continue outreach and training sessions and will report further feedback at future meetings.
